Umar Nurmagomedov reveals surprise injury, gives fight readiness update

In a social media post, UFC bantamweight Umar Nurmagomedov made a surprising revelation about an injury that kept him out of any potential fight bookings in January.

The undefeated cousin of MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov is ranked #2 in the bantamweight division after winning six straight to start his UFC career. A fight between him and Merab Dvalishvili has been the presumptive next title fight since Umar defeated Cory Sandhagen in the main event of UFC Abu Dhabi in August.

Dvalishvili has done much to downplay the potential of Nurmagomedov as a title contender by variously calling out Deiveson Figueiredo, Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan, but it seems clear that the UFC is looking at Merab vs. Umar next.

While that uncertainty may keep him out as well, Nurmagomedov also tweeted on Friday that he broke his arm but is now back to full health.

“I had a small arm fracture and was unable to perform in January,” Nurmagomedov wrote alongside a selfie. “My arm is fine now and I’m open to any offer. Anyone, anywhere!! @ufc”

If Dvalishvili is holding out to avoid a fight with Umar, it appears Nurmagomedov is willing to fight another contender. He has been linked to Song Yadong, but only through rumours.
