Tallies indicate first big wins and losses in tight races

9.40pm: Michael Collins tops the poll after the first count

Independent Irish Party leader Michael Collins is leading the poll after the first count in Cork South West.

Deputy Collins received 11,002 votes which is 800 votes short of the quota.

Social Democrats party leader Holly Cairns looks certain to retain her seat. Deputy Cairns received 9,421 votes.

Incumbent Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan also appears well placed to retain his seat. Deputy O’Sullivan received 9,115 first preference votes.

The next two candidates in the race are Fine Gael duo Cllr Noel O’Donovan with 6,122 votes and Senator Tim Lombard with 5,003 votes.

Long-serving independent councilor Alan Coleman secured 2,191 votes, while Sinn Féin candidate Clare O’Callaghan received 1,448 votes.

Sinn Féin fielded two candidates in Cork South West and their other candidate Donnchadh Ó Seaghdha received 835 votes.

Máiread Ruane (Áontu) received 707 votes, Evie Nevin (Labour Party) received 436 votes, Zoe Laplaud (People Before Profit/Solidarity) received 349 votes, Deborah O’Driscoll (The Irish People) with 287 votes, while independent candidate John O Leary received 29 votes.

5.15pm: Michael Collins and Holly Cairns well placed to retain places

Independent Irish Party leader Michael Collins is on course to retain his seat and top the polls in the Cork South West constituency.

After the completion of the final count, Deputy Collins had 23.5% of the vote.

Social Democrats party leader Holly Cairns, who gave birth to a baby girl on election day, is poised to retain her seat after securing 20%.

Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan is also well placed to retain his seat after he secured 19.2%.

Fine Gael duo Cllr Noel O’Donovan and Senator Tim Lombard are the closest challengers with 13.1% and 9.8% respectively.

The tallying of votes is almost complete in the Cork South West constituency.

The figures suggest Independent Ireland party leader Michael Collins and Social Democrat party leader Holly Cairns are polling very well across the constituency and are expected to retain their seats.

It is also expected that the last seat will be won by Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan who has done very good polling.

With 97% of the boxes counted in Cork South West, Deputy Collins currently has 24.5%, with 10,720 votes.

Deputy Cairns has 20% of first preference votes with 9,139 votes.

Incumbent Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan is on 19.2% with 8,739 votes.

Cllr Noel O’Donovan (Fine Gael) has 13.1% with 5,979 votes. His party colleague Senator Tim Lombard is at 9.8% with 4,459 votes.

The tallying of votes is well underway in the Cork South West constituency.

Early data suggests that Independent Ireland party leader Michael Collins and Social Democrat party leader Holly Cairns are polling very well across the constituency.

With 70% of the boxes counted in Cork South West, Deputy Collins has 24.5%, while Deputy Cairns has 20.3% of first preference votes.

Sitting Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan is on 19.1%.

Cllr Noel O’Donovan (Fine Gael) who is expected to be in the last place is on 12.5%. His party colleague Senator Tim Lombard is currently at 9.4%.

Counting has begun for the Cork South-West constituency of Mallow. Early figures predict Independent Ireland party leader Michael Collins has polled well across the constituency.

It is widely expected that Deputy Michael Collins will take first place.

It is expected that the battle for the last two seats will be closely contested between four candidates.

They include Fianna Fáil TD Christopher O’Sullivan, Social Democrats party leader Holly Cairns, Fine Gael duo Senator Tim Lombard and Cllr Noel O’Donovan.

Social Democrat leader Holly Cairns TD and her partner Barry Looney welcomed a baby girl on the day the country went to the polls.

Early data from across the constituency suggests that Deputy Cairns is polling very well.
