The Nintendo Switch 2 leak comes with a surprise release date

A new Nintendo Switch 2 leak comes with a surprise release date. Nintendo has confirmed that its next console will be a successor to the Nintendo Switch, and thus it will be backward compatible with current Switch. What it hasn’t confirmed is when the console will be revealed, let alone when it will be released. To that end, some Nintendo fans have become concerned that the Nintendo Switch 2 is further away than previous rumors have suggested. However, a new leak suggests the opposite.

The new leak gets in the way Famiboardswhich has been a steady source of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks for the past few months. The new information comes specifically from user LiC, who relayed the news that NVIDIA has shipped more than 800,000 units of the NVIDIA T239 to one of Nintendo’s contract assemblers back in September.

The size of this shipment, and the fact that it happened in September, suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 is deep in production, which in turn suggests that it is close to release. To that end, previous rumors suggesting that the console could be released in the first quarter of 2025 seem possible. On the surface, it’s crazy to suggest that a console that hasn’t even been revealed will be out in March, but these shipping updates reinforce those rumors.

All that said, be sure to take everything here with a grain of salt. This is a leak, not official information. As for Nintendo and NVIDIA, neither has commented on this rumor that has involved both parties. Usually neither comment on rumours, leaks or speculation so we don’t suspect this will change, but if it does we’ll update the story accordingly.

If the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be revealed, it has to be very soon. To that end, the cutoff is likely to be The Game Awards on December 12th. Anything after this year-end event will be too close to the holiday season, where much of the industry takes a break. Historically, almost nothing is revealed or announced in the second half of December. And the first weeks of January tend to be pretty similar.
