The Wolves were encouraged to chase the $25 million journeyman via trade with the Nets

It’s apparent that the Minnesota Timberwolves backcourt needs a little more firepower.

While they keep losing gamesthe organization needs to take a serious look in the mirror. There is far too much talent on this roster to give away that many games.

Some signs suggest the struggles could be blamed on the Karl-Anthony Towns trade. At this point, it might be a little deeper than that. Usually, a team is only as good as its point guards. Veteran Mike Conley is off to a rough start when it comes to productivity and durability.

A new estimated trade from Fadeaway World sees it The Wolves land some point guard help from the Brooklyn Nets. In this trade, Minnesota would send guard Donte DiVincenzo, rookie Terrance Shannon Jr. and three second-round picks to the Nets for veteran guard Dennis Schroder and forward Jalen Wilson.

With Conley missing the last few games due to a sprained toe, rookie guard Rob Dillingham has taken the plunge big time. Although he has been good, he is still a rookie. If this team has playoff aspirations, they will need some veteran leadership at point guard to help anchor the second unit. Schroder has always been one of the most underrated point guards in the league.

So far this season, Schroder is have one career-defining season. He spends more time on the court than ever before (34 minutes). He is also scoring more points than ever before (18.6 points). With a declining Conley, Schroder could remain a starter on the Wolves. It would take some pressure off the 37-year-old and move him to the backup point guard position. It would also allow Dillingham to become the backup shooting guard. That would give Minnesota a solid backcourt, both with the starting and second units.

While they have exceeded expectations, it is inevitable that the rest of the Eastern Conference will catch up. They are still a rebuilding team. As teams begin to take notice of Schroder, he will become one of the biggest trade targets for teams on the brink of the playoffs. Minnesota should be one of the teams not only interested in trading him, but also one of the teams with the best assets to offer the Nets.
