Cameron Parish voters approve 4 tax bills

CAMERON PARISH, La. (KPLC) – Voters in Cameron Parish approved four property tax proposals in the November 5 election.

Hackberry Fire protection property tax renewal

Voters approved a property tax renewal for Hackberry Fire Protection District One. The tax will allow district to continue to collect 4.71 mills from 2025 to 2034 for $608,646 annually to operate and maintain fire protection facilities and pay for water for fire protection, including hydrant rental and service charges.

  • YES – 480 votes (81%)
  • NO – 113 votes (19%)

Referendum text: Shall Hackberry Fire Protection District No. One in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (“District”), is authorized to renew a levied tax of four and seventy-one hundredths (4.71) million on the dollar for assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in said District, for a period of ten (10) years, commencing with the year 2025 and ending with the year 2034, with the proceeds of the tax levy estimated at $608,646 for one full year, for the purpose of operating and maintaining said district’s fire protection facilities and paying the cost of obtaining water for fire protection purposes, including charges for rental of fire hydrants and service within said district?

District 15 Fire Protection Property Tax

Klondike area voters approved a proposal for replacement property tax for fire protection district 15.

The tax will allow district to collect 16 mills instead of the previously levied 8.16 mills for $58,089 annually from 2025 to 2034 to operate and maintain the fire protection facilities and pay for water for fire protection, including hydrant rental and service fees.

  • YES – 70 votes (74%)
  • NO – 25 votes (26%)

Referendum text: Shall Fire Protection District No. 15, Parish of Cameron, Louisiana (“District”), is authorized to levy and collect a tax of sixteen (16) mills on the dollar for assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in the District (“Tax”) in lieu of 8.16 mills previously levied in the District (with $58,089 estimated and reasonably expected to be levied annually) for a period of ten (10) years, beginning in 2025 for the purpose of operating the business and maintaining the District’s fire protection facilities and equipment and pay the expenses of procuring water for fire protection purposes, including charges for the rental of fire hydrants and service in said district?

South Cameron Waterworks District One continues with the property tax

Creole voters approved a proposal to raise a property tax from 6.68 to 15.33 mills in the district formerly known as Waterworks District No. 7. The tax is expected to generate $219,755 annually from 2025 to 2034 to operate and maintain the district’s water system.

  • YES – 93 votes (69%)
  • NO – 42 votes (31%)

Referendum text: Shall South Cameron Consolidated Waterworks District No. One in the Parish of Cameron, State of Louisiana (the “District”), levy a special continuation tax of fifteen and thirty-three hundredths (15.33) mills on all property subject to taxation in the district formerly known as Waterworks District No. Seven, (an estimated $219,755.10 is at this time expected to be collected from the tax for a full year), for an additional period of ten (10) years, commencing with the year 2025 and ending with the year 2034, for the purpose of operating and maintain the district water system within and for the district formerly known as Waterworks District No. Seven, said millage represents an eight and sixty-five hundredths mills (8.65) increase over the 6.68 mills tax allowed to be levied through the year 2024 pursuant to an election held on May 3, 2014?

Gravity Drainage District Nine property tax renewal

Voters approved a property tax renewal for Gravity Drainage District Nine. The tax will allow parish to continue to raise 4.50 mills for $581,509 annually from 2025 to 2034 to build, operate and maintain the district’s drainage system.

  • YES – 455 votes (77%)
  • NO – 134 votes (23%)

Referendum text: Shall Gravity Drainage District No. Nine in Cameron Parish, Louisiana (“District”), is authorized to renew a levied tax of four and fifty hundredths (4.50) million on the dollar for assessed valuation on all property subject to taxation in said district, for a period of ten (10) years, commencing with the year 2025 and ending with the year 2034, with proceeds from the tax levy estimated at $581,509 for one full year, for the purpose of constructing, operating and maintaining the district drainage system within and for said district?
